Biography
Robyn Neild (b. 1968, Cheshire, UK) is a British artist working primarily in bronze, creating sculptures that explore fragility, movement, decay, and resilience. Inspired by the Kent marshlands and the stark landscape of Prospect Cottage, her work transforms the traditionally heavy, masculine material of bronze into delicate, organic forms that evoke loss, hope, and renewal.
Using an experimental approach to the lost-wax casting process, Neild pushes molten bronze into fine, fragile structures, allowing gaps and interruptions to become integral to each piece. Incorporating foraged botanicals, wax, fabric, and paper, her intuitive practice reflects the unpredictable beauty of natural transformation.
Originally trained in fashion design at Middlesex University, Neild later worked as an international illustrator before retraining in sculpture through a foundry apprenticeship. She now casts her own work from her coastal studio in Folkestone.
Her work has been exhibited across the UK and Ireland, including at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Mall Galleries, and Royal West of England Academy. She was awarded the Wales Contemporary Sculpture Prize in 2020 and the Bruce Munro Studio Award in 2022. One of her sculptures is held in the permanent collection of Derek Jarman’s Prospect Cottage in Dungeness.
