Kyeok Kim
102 3/8 x 145 5/8 inches
The design is derived from human skin cells, where Kyeok represents living skin through traditional knitting patterns. Kim’s aim is to make it appear like a layer of skin had been peeled off the body and hung in space.
“I'm inspired by the way that skin cells divide to sustain themselves. Crocheting is a technique that takes a lot of time, so my work represents how my memories combine with the power of time. I want to represent infinity, repeating memory loops through the links of the nets. It's about triggering arbitrary meanings, where one memory calls another and chains of memorise form.”
