Artist Kyeok Kim, uses crochet as her fundamental fabrication technique. Working with 0.2mm copper wire, Kim, crochets patterns and connects them using a patchwork. Thin copper wires are used like threads, they become networks knitted using crochet hooks.

The design is derived from human skin cells, where Kyeok represents living skin through traditional knitting patterns. Kim’s aim is to make it appear like a layer of skin had been peeled off the body and hung in space.

“I'm inspired by the way that skin cells divide to sustain themselves. Crocheting is a technique that takes a lot of time, so my work represents how my memories combine with the power of time. I want to represent infinity, repeating memory loops through the links of the nets. It's about triggering arbitrary meanings, where one memory calls another and chains of memorise form.”
