a partnership with humans to collect precious honey. It is the people of
Yao culture in Northern Mozambique who have cultivated this relationship
that shares what it gains with the bird, in a mutually beneficial honey
foraging technique. For this piece I imagined the Honeyguide has decided
to nest in the hive emptied of its honey as other species of birds are known
to appropriate existing structures such as bees nests. It’s these profound
bonds cultivated over generations creating enduring and sustainable
environmental legacies with the more-than-human that drives my work."
