"Another Excuse 2023" is a captivating artwork by Fredrik Nielsen, forged from a year-long artistic journey sparked by a visit to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Nielsen was struck by an ancient silver work—a vessel emerging from a silver plate with an integrated handle—that left an indelible mark on his imagination. The sculpture embodies transformation. It begins with a base, repeatedly reshaped until its original form becomes obscured and fragmented, a deliberate act of artistic evolution. Glass layers are thoughtfully added, culminating in a body, and a black glass neck complements an old telephone handle-like feature. All components are bathed in an alluring opaque green hue.

Nielsen's artistry is a symphony of controlled chaos. He applies molten glass from heated coloured glass rods, blurring the line between painting and sculpting. The piece is cyclically cooled and reheated over weeks, each phase adding depth and narrative. Nielsen seeks to charge the object with the energy of the present moment, minimising analytical interference. "Another Excuse 2023" transcends aesthetics, revealing the essence of creation. The title symbolises both a reason and an excuse for art, offering a rhythmic memory of movement. This sculpture is an intricate dance of artistry that invites viewers to engage in its rich narrative, ultimately standing as a testament to the transformative power of artistic expression.
