The Self-Mining lounge chair delves deeper into the concept of unearthing and excavation, blending traditional craftsmanship with instinctive processes. Sculpted with fractured, coarse surfaces and weathered smooth lumps, the chair’s form is inspired by the organic growth of stalagmites and stalactites—structures that rise from the ground and descend from above, reminiscent of dark, mined spaces.
This piece represents a personal journey of introspection, where the act of making serves as a means of connecting to the foundational parts of the self. Each curve and crevice externalizes deeper, abstract aspects of identity that might otherwise remain hidden. The eroded form reflects the tension between elements fused together and simultaneously worn down over time, embodying a raw yet harmonious balance.
Finished in a traditional black stain, Self-Mining is a sculptural statement that captures both the power of natural forces and the transformative process of personal exploration through design and craft.
