Founded in Seoul in 2010 by Dongkyu Kim and Sungjo Kim, FABRIKR is the collaborative artistic practice of two artists whose work spans collectible design, sculpture, lighting, installation and site-responsive architectural projects. Established immediately after graduating in Surface Design from Sungkyunkwan University, the studio emerged from a shared conviction that their future lay not simply in designing objects, but in building a life through making together.

During their final year of study, countless conversations about their work, ambitions and the kind of lives they hoped to lead gradually revealed a common purpose. Those discussions led naturally to the formation of FABRIKR and to a way of working that remains fundamentally collaborative today. Presenting their first independently conceived works, and witnessing the conversations they generated, confirmed their decision to pursue a shared artistic practice. More than fifteen years later, that commitment to continual making and dialogue continues to shape the evolution of the studio.

Since its founding, FABRIKR has steadily expanded beyond the scale of the individual object. What began through collectible furniture has developed into a multidisciplinary practice encompassing sculpture, lighting, installation and site-responsive architectural projects. As the studio has evolved, so too has the scale and context of its work. Alongside limited-edition pieces, FABRIKR has realised installations and architectural collaborations for cultural, commercial and hospitality environments, including Seoul’s Onion cafés and the Chicoriy Hotel. These projects reflect an increasingly spatial approach to making, where individual works contribute to a broader architectural experience rather than existing as isolated objects.

While the scope of the work has broadened, the studio’s collaborative ethos has remained constant. Every project develops through sustained conversation, experimentation and making, allowing each commission and body of work to respond to its particular context while contributing to the continuing development of the practice.

Today, FABRIKR occupies a distinctive position within contemporary collectible design, moving fluidly between object, space and architecture. From limited-edition works to large-scale architectural commissions, the studio continues to expand its multidisciplinary practice while remaining grounded in the shared curiosity that first brought Dongkyu Kim and Sungjo Kim together in Seoul in 2010.
