Design Miami. Seoul: Material Echoes

31 August - 6 September 2026
Overview

For Design Miami Seoul 2026, Charles Burnand Gallery presents Material Echoes, a group exhibition exploring how materials carry memory, knowledge, and cultural meaning across time.

Bringing together artists from Korea, China, Europe, and the United States, the presentation examines the ways in which making becomes a form of transmission. Through ceramic, bronze, carved wood, resin, recycled textiles, and crocheted copper wire, each work embodies a dialogue between material, maker, and place. Some draw from geological processes and natural forms, while others reinterpret traditional techniques through contemporary design languages.

Responding to Design Miami Seoul’s theme of Resonance, the exhibition considers how objects continue to reverberate beyond their physical presence, carrying traces of craft, history, and human touch. Together, these works reveal design as a living conversation between tradition and innovation, where materials become vessels for memory, connection, and exchange.
