BiographyMarc Fish is a British designer and maker celebrated for pushing the boundaries between fine furniture, sculpture, and design art. Blending meticulous craftsmanship with experimental techniques, Fish creates works that explore the relationship between nature, form, and material innovation. His practice sits at the crossroads of traditional woodworking and contemporary design, with a particular focus on layered construction, biomorphic forms, and the tactile elegance of natural materials.Originally trained in cabinetmaking, Fish went on to study design and furniture-making, founding Robinson House Studio in the UK-a workshop and school dedicated to nurturing the next generation of furniture makers. As both a practicing artist and mentor, he has developed a distinct aesthetic rooted in fluid, organic geometry and the controlled manipulation of wood, metal, and resin.Fish is perhaps best known for his sculptural forms crafted from thousands of hand-laid veneer laminations, often referencing natural topographies, marine structures, and botanical forms. His works frequently incorporate materials like carbon fibre, bronze, or 24-carat gold leaf, striking a balance between ancient craft traditions and future-facing design. Pieces such as the One Piece console, Ethereal Bed, and his large-scale shell sculptures have earned international acclaim for their ingenuity, elegance, and obsessive attention to detail.Marc Fish has exhibited globally, including at PAD London, Design Miami, and TEFAF, and his work is held in prominent private and public collections worldwide. His practice continues to evolve, embracing sustainable approaches while challenging perceptions of what furniture and design can be.
